Silver Lakes Plantation is a wonderful hunting property with plenty of game and fish. It is well located being one hour from Columbia, an hour and a half from Charleston and fifteen minutes from the town of Summerton on I-95, the busiest interstate in the United States. The plantation is a few miles north of Lake Marion, 110,000 acres of fresh water referred to as South Carolina’s inland sea. Lake Marion is known for its big fish and abundant wildlife. It attracts migratory waterfowl by the thousands. The state fishing record for largemouth bass was set at this lake.

Silver Lakes has plenty of fish and there are some big ones. On June 2, 2018, Mr. Stephen Johnson of Charleston caught two bass weighing over 10 pounds each on the property but these are not his biggest there. He has also caught a largemouth bass weighing over 11 lbs. There are pictures of these fish below.

As for hunting Silver Lakes has that, too. In recent years the plantation has been improved to produce habitat for deer, turkey, and especially ducks and quail. There is an irrigated dove field where several shoots are annual events. Miles of trails meander through beautiful woods and fields planted with hundreds of oaks for wildlife. There are four impoundments covering 36 acres that are planted and flooded for ducks. In addition to the four lakes there is a creek noted for its red breast bream that forms the eastern boundary.  The plantation was named for its lakes and the nearby community of Silver.

Improvements include the owner’s cottage, a game lodge containing a gunroom, an upstairs bedroom, a large high ceiling room with a bar, and numerous African trophies. The trophy room has a living area and massive fireplace. There are two equipment sheds, an open shed and outdoor cooking area, and dog kennels. There is an extensive series of underground irrigation equipment and electric powered water pumps that furnishes water to the lakes and fields.

Silver Lakes is set up for entertaining. Everything is in place to manage the property, including personnel and equipment. Silver Lakes will appeal to sportsmen and nature lovers. It has something for everyone and is priced to sell including furnishings, equipment, bird dogs and the African trophies.
