A HUNTING PROPERTY NEAR ALBANY GEORGIA

Wallington is located twenty miles south of Albany in the heart of plantation country. Pineland and Pinebloom, two of the finest hunting plantations in Georgia, practically surround the property. In the 1950’s Wallington was a cattle farm owned by Hill Blackett, a successful Chicago advertising executive, and later by the Richard King Mellon Foundation, owner of Pineland. Over the years Wallington was converted from a commercial farm into a hunting place. Today, it is one of the best in the area.

The Cooleewahee Creek (Koo-le-wa-he) is Indian for where white acorns are scattered and lies just east of the property. The creek is spring fed and the water is a crystal clear blue running south a few miles into the Flint River. A smaller stream known as Alligator Creek flows through a portion of Wallington and into the Cooleewahee. The woodlands along these creeks are full of deer and wild turkeys, and probably why so many Indians once lived here.

In addition to the hardwoods stretching along the creeks numerous stands of longleaf pines are on the property. There are wildlife food plots and an excellent dove field. This diverse habitat supports a lot of game including quail and a few wild hogs. Fishermen can enjoy quality largemouth bass and bream fishing in two stocked ponds or in the nearby Flint River, the largest river in Georgia and one of the prettiest streams to canoe, kayak or fly fish.

The attractive and spacious Wallington House is accessed through a landscaped entrance and oak grove. A log cabin (circa 1850) is located near the main house and used for overflow guests. Another dwelling called “The Pond House” overlooks one of the ponds circled by live oaks. The plantation is set up for having guests and entertaining.

Improvements include a skeet range, horse stable, dog kennel and equipment shed.
