Friendfield Plantation is located on the Sampit River near the historic seaport of Georgetown, South Carolina. The plantation was originally operated for the production of indigo and rice, and since the 1930’s been managed primarily for timber production and hunting.

Friendfield’s beautiful house was built in 1931 under the direction of architect Arthur Meigs of the well-known Philadelphia firm of Mellor and Meigs. It is perfect for entertaining and having overnight guests. The rooms are large with thirteen-foot ceilings and tall windows. The house overlooks the rice fields and is surrounded by magnificent oaks, two ponds, and huge camellias in a formal garden with a reflecting pool. Two charming guest cottages, a plantation office, and managers house are nearby. The setting is spectacular.

The plantation’s gently rolling land contains expanses of long leaf pine quail woods which also has deer, and wild turkeys. There are miles of trails for horesback riding or walking. Over 85 acres of rice fields attract migrating waterfowl.

Few places in America contain more history and charm than Friendfield. There are numerous historic structures of significance on the property including a slave village and cemetery. The plantation is listed on The National Historic Register.
