Paul and Dalton Plantation is located in the ACE Basin in Colleton County, South Carolina. The land contains 3030 acres and includes the adjoining property known as Longbrow under the same ownership. The plantation is situated on the east bank of the Combahee River about 47 miles from Charleston. The area known as the ACE Basin represents one of the largest undeveloped estuaries on the east coast of the United States. The basin consist of approximately 350,000 acres of diverse habitats including pines and hardwood uplands, forested wetlands, fresh, brackish and salt water tidal marshes, barrier islands and beaches. In the mid 1700’s tidal swamps bordering rivers in this area were cleared and diked for rice cultivation. Today many of these rice fields are managed to provide habitat for migratory and resident waterfowl.
