The Ichawaynochaway Creek is commonly called the Nochaway Creek, a 65 mile long tributary of the Flint River. It is one of the most beautiful streams in Georgia. The name is believed to be Muskogee Indian and translates as “The place where the deer sleep.” |
In the early 1800’s the Creek Indian tribes who lived along the Nochaway were pushed out as the white settlers moved westward. A major skirmish occurred on the creek in 1836. The whites were outnumbered and had to withdraw. Indian artifacts are commonly found in the area today. |
