The dike system surrounding the duck fields is based on the footprint of a historic rice field property formerly known as Taylor Hill in the early 1800's. Neighboring historic properties include Arcadia and Rosemont Plantations and the Belle W. Baruch Foundation lands.

Willowbank is protected by a conservation easement.

Willow Bank has three water control structures which aid in the management of the two adjoining and separately controlled impoundments. Elevations and tidal amplitudes allow for planting crops for waterfowl. The salinity levels allow for moist soil management for submerged aquatic vegetation and shell and fin fish. This unique habitat allows for multiple recreational opportunities, mainly fantastic fishing and hunting.

Historically, Willowbank has been managed for duck hunting and attracts an array of species. The dike system sits well off the main flow of the Pee Dee and Waccamaw Rivers and is sheltered by adequate marsh buffers. The property and its surrounding neighbors are protected by conservation easements to preserve this pristine area forever.
